The Youths for Environmental and Advocacy Centre (YEAC-Nigeria) has launched a solar off-grid project to provide electricity to communities without power in the Niger Delta region. This initiative, known as the YEAC Community Energy and Development Centre (YEAC-CEAD), is sponsored by development partners from the United Kingdom.
During the formal launch of the project in Port Harcourt on Thursday, Fyneface Dumnamene Fyneface, the project’s initiator and YEAC Executive Director, emphasized the project’s commitment to promoting clean energy through solar power generation. He explained that this initiative aligns with the global shift away from fossil fuels, aiming to provide both environmental and economic benefits to the communities involved.
Fyneface highlighted that unlike traditional power sources, which rely on gas, diesel, or PMS, this project uses purely renewable solar energy. He stated, “This energy is sourced from solar, making it entirely different from conventional power generation methods. It supports the global call to leave fossil fuels in the ground, as they are detrimental to our environment. Now, we have a viable alternative in solar energy.”
The project is expected to create employment opportunities and stimulate economic development in the benefiting communities.
